TREND MICRO - GOLD SPONSOR AT MOBILE WORLD CONGRESS 2012
Mobile Security Forum, industry analyst debate, and new original research will deliver “honest, actionable advice” on BYOD, Consumerization and Security
MARLOW, UK: 21 February 2012: Trend Micro, a global leader in cloud-based security software and services, today announced its Gold Sponsor presence at Mobile World Congress 2012 in Barcelona (27 February – 1 March). As Gold Sponsor, Trend Micro will host a Mobile Security Forum at the event, which will focus on advising businesses on Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) and Consumerization. It will also release two brand new pieces of research:
- a US/UK/German IT Executive and CEO Survey on trends and perceptions in mobile consumerization
- A comparative study on the enterprise readiness of the leading mobile platforms
Consumerization refers to the use of consumer technology in the enterprise. This is already happening - businesses are powerless to stop it. The most notable example of this is the multitude of private mobile devices used by Executives and employees to access corporate networks and data –BYOD. The consumerization of enterprise mobility has clear benefits in terms of convenience and productivity, but the lack of a strategic approach to this disruptive IT trend among enterprise mobility managers and corporate IT professionals creates security risks, financial exposure and a management nightmare.
There is an overall lack of education with regard to the security and management implications of consumer mobile technology in the enterprise. Trend Micro’s mission at MWC is to help supply information, research, best practices and independent experts’ advice, to help the IT profession embrace the consumerization that is already at work in their enterprise.
Cesare Garlati, Senior Director, Mobile Security, at Trend Micro commented: “You know your CEO and your Executives are using consumer mobile devices on a daily basis to access sensitive corporate data. But do you know if this is done in a secure way? Are you just hoping for the best? Are you prepared for the worst? Brand new research that we will release at the event shows that many organisations have a desperate need for direction on this issue. This is why the honest, actionable advice we are supplying at this event is so crucial.”
The Mobile Security Forum (www.mobileworldcongress.com/forum-series) takes place on Wednesday 29th February, 1.30 p.m., in Hall 7, Auditorium C. Presentations and panel discussion feature Cesare Garlati as well as industry analysts Altimeter Group and Bloor Research. The theme is Consumer Mobile Technology in the Enterprise: a Leap of Faith? The Forum will also feature a live mobile malware demo from security expert and international media commentator Rik Ferguson, who will show how mobile devices can be used to eavesdrop and steal sensitive corporate information.
