Part of the Trend Micro™ Custom Defence Solution, Trend Micro messaging security products provide protection against targeted attacks with enhanced web reputation, a new detection engine, and new threat analysis appliance to block highly targeted email attacks by using exploit detection and sandboxing. Integration of these components provides a custom defence that enables you to detect, analyze, adapt and respond to targeted attacks.

• Web reputation is powered by the big data analytics and predictive technology of Smart Protection Network global threat intelligence
• Enhanced technology scans URLs embedded in emails and blocks URLs leading to malicious sites

Advanced threat scan engine

• Detects advanced malware in PDF, MS Office, and other documents using static and heuristic logic to detect and examine abnormalities in addition to known and zero-day exploits
• Quarantines suspicious attachments for automatic sandbox execution analysis to occur in-line without impacting the delivery of majority of messages (requires integration with optional Trend Micro™ Deep Discovery Advisor)

Deep Discovery Advisor, a component of the Trend Micro™ Custom Defence Solution

• Provides automatic in-depth simulation and analysis of potentially malicious attachments including executables and common office documents in a secure sandbox environment
• Allows customers to create and analyze multiple fully custom target images that precisely match their host environments
• Analyzes logs of Trend Micro products and third-party solutions combined with Trend Micro threat intelligence to provide in-depth insights for risk-based incident assessment, containment and remediation
• Issues custom security updates for adaptive protection and remediation by other Trend Micro products and other third-party security layers

InterScan Messaging Security delivers fully integrated, multi-layered security that starts filtering spam and malicious email in the cloud. At the next layer, it queries cloud-based reputation databases and performs a final sweep at the network perimeter.

1. The cloud pre-filter is a SaaS offering included in the licensing agreement; deployment is optional. As a first layer of defense, it stops spam, phishing and malware, including malicious links—before they can reach your network. It reduces total email volumes up to 95%, minimizing the impact on your mail gateway and the drain on IT resources. No email is stored in the cloud to ensure data privacy.


2. Email and Web Reputation deliver immediate protection by sending real-time queries to the Trend Micro Smart Protection Network. Based on up-to-the-minute threat intelligence in the cloud, Email Reputation blocks mail from known spammers and cybercriminals, and Web Reputation blocks access to malicious websites.


3. Our advanced antispam engine identifies additional spam and phishing threats using signature files—for a layered defense.


4. Industry-leading anti-malware blocks the wide range of known threats based on signatures, heuristics and document exploits.


5. The on-premise virtual appliance takes over once the heavy lifting is done. It scans inbound and outbound email based on flexible and customizable policies, including DLP filtering and encryption.
