Trend Micro™ Portable Security allows you to scan and eliminate viruses using security installed on a USB memory device. For this reason, it is possible to easily carry out a virus scan and removal for a wide range of environments as long as a USB interface is available. Portable Security was designed to avoid the risks inherent when devices are not automatically updated with the latest security running the risk of a virus infection in a factory or manufacturing plant; or an offline office environment; or products that are ship-infected with virus.
Environments that are not connected to the Internet, and therefore, unavailable for typical scanning and deletion practices, are now able to carry out virus scans and removal via Portable Security with the latest pattern files. This helps to prevent:

Q. Can I use the device to store files?
A. TMPS is a specialised security tool, so it cannot be used as a normal USB memory device as it does not have space for writing any of your data.
Q. Is the UI available in multiple languages?
A. In TMPS version 1.1, the UI can be displayed in Japanese or in English.
Q. Does TMPS provide real-time scanning?
A. No. TMPS does not provide real-time scanning functionality.
Q. How do I update the files on my portable device?
A. You update the latest pattern file acquired from Trend Micro by your management computer which does need to be connected to the internet.
Q. Does TMPS scan my management computer?
A. TMPS does not scan for viruses on the management computer itself.
Q. Can I scan multiple target computers with 1 scan tool?
A. Yes, it is possible to scan multiple target computers with 1 scan tool.
Q. Is it possible to save the scan program onto another USB device and use that?
A. TMPS uses special USB memory in order to protect the scan tool itself. It will not work on a normal USB memory stick.
Q. Where are the folders that are isolated during a virus scan kept in quarantine?
A. Isolated files are kept in a quarantine folder within the scan tool.
Q. Is it possible to also scan the USB memory device when it is connected to the computer targeted for scanning?
A. It is possible to scan if it is mounted as a drive.
Q. Is the log displayed even if no viruses are found?
A. Yes, the results of the virus scan are output in the logs.
Q. How is this different from the Trend Micro USB Security for Biz (TMUSB) security USB memory device being sold by USB memory vendors?
A. The USB memory device with TMUSB installed that are being sold by USB memory vendors do not scan the hard drive of the computer targeted for scanning. They scan only the files written onto USB memory. TMPS scans the local hard drive of the target computer. The main difference is that TMUSB is a product developed on the assumption that the target computer is being protected by our products, but TMPS was developed on the assumption that the environment cannot have anti-virus software installed.
Q. Is it necessary to purchase the administrator program separately?
A. No, it is not necessary. The usage fee for the administrator program is included in the price of the TMPS product
